The ALS Story

Advanced Labelling Systems began in 1997, when Noel Donaldson led a management buy-out of Avery Dennison's UK labelling machinery division. The whole team moved from Wooburn Green in Buckinghamshire to a new home in Thame, Oxfordshire — bringing with them decades of hard-won labelling expertise that still runs through everything we build today.

For the next 25 years ALS grew as an independent, family-run business under Noel's son, Phil and his team headed up by Ian Turner, on a simple idea: employ good people, look after your customers and stand behind what you sell. It's why, from day one, we backed our machines with a genuinely comprehensive 2-Year on-site warranty covering parts, travel and labour — something no other UK labelling company offered at the time, and a promise we still keep.

In 2023 we sold a majority stake to the Possehl Group, joining its Possehl Identification Solutions (PID) division to help us grow. PID is a family of eleven specialist companies spanning labelling, coding, software and label production, working closely together to support customers in more than 80 countries. For you, it means the same familiar ALS team and values — now backed by the reach, resources and shared expertise of a major European group.

What hasn't changed is where, and how, we work. Our labelling machines are still designed and built in our own workshop in Thame, our self-adhesive labels are still printed and converted on site, and our field service and technical sales engineers are still based regionally across the UK, close to the customers they look after. Same principles, same people — ready for the next chapter.
